Puzzle: The Prisoner’s Hat — 4 prisoners, 2 black and 2 white hats.
✅ Answer: Prisoner C calls out. Here’s why: C can see D’s hat. If C saw D wearing, say, white — C would know his own could be either color. The key is that B can see both C and D. If B saw two hats of the same color (e.g., both white), B would know his own is black (since there are only 2 of each) and would shout immediately. When B doesn’t shout after a minute, C realizes: B must see two DIFFERENT colors. C sees D’s color, so C knows his own must be the opposite. C shouts first.
